The “Statistical Reports” section on the National Health Information System (NHIS) website already includes 125 reports, divided into 12 categories. This was stated by Milla Filipova, Product Manager at Information Services, in the “Bulgaria, Europe and the World in Focus” programme on FOCUS Radio.
The reports are comprehensive, accessible to the public and designed to provide maximum usefulness to health authorities, experts and citizens. e, Filipova explained. Most reports are updated daily, and  their analysis can help health authorities make informed, timely, and adequate decisions that lead to better prevention and prophylaxis, she added.
The statistical panel on the NHIS website has been active for more than a year, and is continuously expanded and enriched with new reports and statistical data based on the information submitted to the NHIS by doctors in Bulgaria. All medical professionals and healthcare facilities are required by law to submit data on every medical activity and service they perform, Filipova reminded. The statistical reports provided on the NHIS website are based on the data recorded into the system.
Based on diagnoses submitted by doctors to NHIS, it is reported that  there are 1.130 million chronically ill patients with ischemic heart disease this year. A total of 75,275 people in the country are registered with type 1 diabetes, and over 740,000 with type 2 diabetes. The registered cases of myocardial infarction for this year alone are 8,593. For 2025, the total number of recorded MI cases was 37,000, according to Filipova. The number of issued electronic prescriptions so far in 2026 is 11.180 million, she added.
