Electronic Health Record Modules

What are electronic health record and its modules?

The patient is the core focus of the NHIS development: his/her electronic health record is the foundation of the system. It contains electronic records of all medical procedures, performed and recorded in NHIS by medical professionals– examinations, vaccinations, medical referrals, hospitalizations, test results, prescriptions, etc. The aim is to build the most detailed electronic health record for every healthcare user in Bulgaria. This includes all medical services, regardless of the source of funding – National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), private health insurance providers, out-of-pocket expenses, etc.

The electronic health record allows the public to exert control over the functioning of the healthcare system, protect it against fraud, and prevent the abuse of public funds.

The electronic health record has been continuously upgraded since 2020.
