As of mid-April, nearly 17,900 doctors from hospital and outpatient care are working with the National Health Information System (NHIS). This was announced by Boris Kostadinov, Director of Software Integration at Information Services, who participated in the seminar Green Days at MU - Sofia organized by the Medical University - Sofia. During his participation in the forum, Kostadinov presented the NHIS ecosystem to lecturers and students and emphasized that one of the key objectives of digitization in the sector is to improve the quality of healthcare in Bulgaria.

Nearly 4,400 pharmacists, 370 dentists, and 1,000 laboratory technicians are working with the National Health Information System, according to data from mid-April 2023.

Through the NHIS, over 121,000 auxiliary aids have been granted to 52,000 patients with disabilities. The granted auxiliary aids are worth a total of 27 million BGN, based on 53,000 electronically submitted requests. By digitizing the process, the average time for application approval has been reduced to 2 days, and the average period from application submission to receiving the auxiliary aids is less than 10 days, Kostadinov emphasized.

More than 2.1 million patients use electronic prescription booklets (EPBs) for chronic diseases, according to data from mid-April. Over 8,700 doctors and pharmacists work with EPBs. In less than a month, 3,100 doctors have issued over 9,500 electronic protocols for prescribing medicinal products funded by NHIF/RHIF. The e-protocols have been issued to over 280,000 patients, and more than 1,800 pharmacists have dispensed the prescribed medicines electronically.
